Ngong Ping, Lantau
The whole trail is 5.7km long and the section between Tung Chung and Ngong Ping takes about 4 hours to complete if you reserve some time for a mid-way break. Formerly a rugged Mountain trail and also known as Ngong Ping 360 Rescue Trail, it connects Tung Chung and Ngong Ping and is now used as the rescue and maintenance of Ngong Ping 360. When the cable car system was constructed, part of the trail was paved with wooden boards as a way to preserve the natural environment.
The initial section involves many stone steps—climbing roughly 300 meters in just about 1 kilometer from ground level to Tower No. 3, with numerous steep and hidden inclines along the way. However, once past Tower No. 3, you’ll be rewarded with breath-taking views of Tung Chung Bay and Hong Kong International Airport. Continuing toward Tower No. 4, you’ll pass the famous "Stairway to Heaven", a trail section built by Ngong Ping 360. As you proceed further, reaching Tower No. 5 brings you to the highest point of the Ngong Ping Trail—the Nei Lak Shan Turning Station. From here, you can gaze upon endless skies and rolling mountains while looking up at the parallel cable car lines—a truly unique perspective. Finally, a gentle descent leads to the exit at Ngong Ping, where the sight of the Big Buddha signals the nearing end of this unforgettable trail adventure.
