Our Lady of Joy Abbey
Established in 1951 and formerly known as the Trappist Haven Monastery, Our Lady of Joy Abbey is the only Catholic monastery built in medieval style in Hong Kong.
The stone-built abbey features a European rural medieval style. The Chinese style Virgin Mary Pavilion built in the backyard is a fusion of Eastern and Western culture. The bright and airy chapel has a distinctive pastel green roof and a wooden balcony at the rear. It offers adequate space for services attended by believers.
A solemn building
The presence of a Catholic establishment on Lantau Island, which is internationally renowned for its Buddhist Po Lin Monastery and the Tian Tan Buddha, exemplifies the cultural diversity of Hong Kong.
