Lion Hill, Elephant Hill and Tiger Hill
Located at the east side of Tai O, “Lion Hill” and “Elephant Hill” are traditionally regarded as the guardians for Tai O, alongside “Tiger Hill” and “Phoenix Hill”.
Lion Hill and Tiger Hill offer expansive scenic panorama of Tai O. To go to Lion Hill, alight from Ling Yan Abbey bus stop and look for a flight of stairs. Walk up and you will reach the entrance to the trail up Lion Hill. Lion Hill and Elephant Hill are located on the east side of Tai O, they are 322 m and 449 m tall respectively. The rocky landscape of Lion Hill is quite special. The “Chicken Rock” and the “Dog Rock” along the trail, for example, draw quite many hikers to come and have a look. Proceed from Lion Hill and you will be reaching Elephant Hill. You can observe Sham Wat Wan, the airport and even the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge from the peak of Elephant Hill.
Tiger Hill is off the north of Tai O. You can reach there from Wing On Street in Tai O by walking towards Yeung Hau Temple. There may be gravels along the trail, but it is generally an easy hike. The famous “Fu Shan Bridge”, a short bridge before you reach the observation pavilion on Tiger Hill, is a great spot to appreciate sunset. You can overlook the fishing village of Tai O and 180 degree of expansive sea view in one place. You can also look towards the other side and appreciate the views of Lion Hill and Elephant Hill.
